| History of Rowayton Pizza |
| |
My name is Matthew Criscuolo and I am the founder and owner of Rowayton Pizza
since 1975 which makes Rowayton Pizza the oldest restaurant in Rowayton, CT.

My journey began in 1958 when, at the age of 13,
I left a small Italian village, Agerola, near Naples, boarded a ship with my
family and arrived eight days later in New York City. After graduating from high
school, I attended Bronx Community College, teaching Italian and Spanish.
In 1975 I arrived at a critcal crossroad in my life. Although I loved
the world of Academia, I decided to become a businessman and to open a pizzeria,
a business that I knew very well. As a youngster and during my college years, I
spent many summers and evenings working at pizza parlors in the Bronx and
Stamford, which gave me a thorough understanding of what it took to create an
excellent pizzeria. I also come from a family that owns many Pizza Restaurants
in Fairfield County since 1968 and value the tradition of fine Italian
cooking.
When I first saw Rowayton, I immediately fell in love with the
town and intuitively I knew it was where I wanted to be. Rowayton Pizza became
very popular from the moment I opened the door, and 33 years later, remains so.
It wasn't just the quality of the food, the thin crust, our recipes, the product
selection, preparing our own sauces and dishes on premises, remembering
everyone's name that attracted customers then and still do today, but it was
also a family effort. In the early days, my wife, Marcella and my three
children, Matthew, Joseph and Tina, all contributed to Rowayton Pizza's success.
Ultimately, Rowayton Pizza's success can be attributed to my customers' loyalty.
I thank you you very much for your patronage. We still continue in the
same old fashion way thanks to a caring crew led by Fabio Lourenconi. |
